
Superintendent - Commercial Construction
Position Overview
The Superintendent oversees day-to-day field operations for commercial construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to design specifications. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to coordinate subcontractors, materials, equipment, and personnel on-site while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Execution & Coordination

Direct and supervise all field personnel and subcontractors to ensure project milestones and quality standards are met.

Coordinate daily field operations with project managers, engineers, and inspectors.

Review project drawings, specifications, and schedules to plan and sequence construction activities efficiently.

Manage logistics for deliveries, equipment, and manpower to maintain project flow.

Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress, workmanship, and safety compliance.
Safety Management

Serve as the on-site Safety Leader, enforcing all company, OSHA, and local safety regulations.

Conduct daily safety meetings and toolbox talks with crew members and subcontractors.

Ensure all personnel receive proper training, PPE, and safety orientation prior to work.

Identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures to maintain a zero-incident environment.

Maintain all safety documentation, incident reports, and inspection records in compliance with regulatory standards.

Coordinate with the company’s Safety Director for audits, inspections, and corrective action plans.
Quality Control

Inspect all work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and building codes.

Work closely with the project manager and quality control personnel to resolve issues quickly.

Maintain accurate daily logs, reports, and photographic documentation of progress.
Scheduling & Communication

Develop and maintain a two- to three-week lookahead schedule and ensure all subcontractors are aligned.

Communicate regularly with the project team regarding progress, changes, and field issues.

Lead on-site coordination meetings with subcontractors and vendors.

Assist in resolving conflicts and ensuring positive relationships with clients, inspectors, and local authorities.
Administrative Duties

Review and approve timesheets, delivery tickets, and field change orders.

Track material quantities and verify deliveries.

Maintain and submit daily job reports, safety logs, and project documentation in the company’s project management system.
Qualifications

Minimum 5–10 years of experience in commercial construction supervision (e.g., retail, office, healthcare, industrial).

Strong understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and safety management.

OSHA 30-Hour Certification (required); First Aid/CPR preferred.

Proficiency with project management and scheduling software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid, MS Project).

Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical & Work Environment

Work is primarily conducted on active construction sites, requiring standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Exposure to varying weather conditions and job-site hazards.

Must wear appropriate PPE at all times.
